Parroquia Immaculada Concepción
Isabel Segunda
According to the investigations of J. Pastor Ruiz,
the original Catholic Church stood in the same location and was
a rustic structure covered by palm fronds.
The first baptism was conducted on January 16, 1844
and the first wedding was performed two days later.
A more permanent church was completed in 1860, in
which year Bishop Pablo Benigno Carrión of Malagá,
Spain came to Vieques where he performed 1019 Confirmations. The
Bishop died on November 29, 1871, when his coach overturned on
the road between Fajardo and Luquillo. |
