Navío Beach, Vieques

Navío Beach is the last beach that you'll come to on the
Sun Bay access road. At the end of Media Luna Beach, bear left
and follow the dirt track to Navío. It is a lovely coral
sand beach fringed by coconut palms and sea grapes.
Because Navío is the furthest beach on the Sun Bay access
road, which is rutted and difficult to negotiate, and because
of the wavy condition of the bay, Navío tends to be even
less visited than its neighboring beaches, Sun Bay and Media Luna.
This, in conjunction with the cool and refreshing trade winds,
makes NavíoBeach ideal for relaxing and picnicking.

String up a hammock between two palm trees and,
in the words of Bob Dylan, "forget about today until tomorrow."
Swimming, Snorkeling and Body Surfing
Navío is exposed to the trade winds and there is usually
wind-driven surf that breaks near shore. This wind condition along
with the relatively soft sandy bottom of the bay, makes Navío
the best beach on Vieques for body surfing and boogie boarding
in the summer when there is no ground sea on the north.
There is excellent snorkeling on both sides of the bay, especially
on calm days when one can explore the caves, sea fan beds and
colorful sponge and fire coral covered rock walls.

For Adventurers
Adventurers in good physical shape and with some rock scrambling
experience may want to explore the rugged trail that leads to
the rocky cliffs between Navío and Media Luna, where a
rocky outcropping not far from shore provides a platform for daring
jumpers and divers.

Following a trail that leads west and then turning inland at
the first low point, there is a narrow path that leads to a salt
water pool inside a cave. The pool is fed by an underground passage
connecting it to the sea.
