Media Luna, Vieques

Like the name describes, Media Luna is in the shape of a perfect
half moon. This coral sand beach is about a quarter of a mile
long and is back dropped by lush coconut palms and sea grapes.

Media Luna is reached by following the road past Sun Bay and
then bearing to the left. Continue on that road until you come
to the beach.
In general, Media Luna is quieter and less crowded than its immediate
neighbor, Sun Bay.
Facilities
Facilities are limited to four small covered pavilions with wooden
picnic benches and garbage cans.

Swimming and snorkeling
A swim area, protected by buoys, extends the length of the beach
with the exception of a central dinghy channel.
Near shore the sea bottom is sandy, but in the area of the swim
buoys and beyond, the bay is covered by a magnificent bed of sea
grass, unspoiled so far by turbidity caused by runoff pollution
from irresponsible development or damage by anchors and anchor
line.
Media Luna is well protected against both wind and waves, and
as a result, the bay is usually very calm. Additionally, the water
is shallow, non threatening and warmer than in deeper bays, making
Media Luna an ideal beach for children and beginning swimmers.
